Thames High School 1stXV have won the inaugrual Chiefs Trophy final defeating Pukekohe High
School 15 - 12 in a tense battle at Hamilton Old Boys
yesterday, Friday 25th May. Thames were first to score with a try early, but Pukekohe answered quickly in a game that ebbed and flowed. Going in to half time 12 - 8 down, the three missed penalty shots by Thames, all basically in front, looked as though they might come back to haunt them. The second half
saw both sides moving the ball up and down the field with great gusto and it was with around 8 minutes to go that Thames, after being camped on their try-line for serveral minutes finally scored
the try, with kicker Mark Rohrlach nailing the conversion from near the side line. Pukekohe then went all out in attack but the Thames defenc
e held on for a thrilling and befitting win. Congratulations to Thames High School coaches and players from the Thames Valley Rugby Union.
