Swampfoxes End Buller's Run

posted Sep 4, 2011, 6:19 PM by Thames Valley Rugby Football Union Inc
Previously unbeaten Buller had their first taste of defeat on Saturday, going down to the Swampfoxes 22 - 20 at Paeroa Domain.
With a try apiece within the first 7 minutes of the game you would have been forgiven for thinking this was going to be a tryfest, however both teams then set their defences and the game tightened up. At the 20 minute mark, Buller were hot on attack and had created an overlap when winger Jimmy Horsford went for the intercept. His length of the field try under the post was a "14 pointer" as Buller would surely have scored had he not gathered the ball. Buller did all the attacking in the second half, with two penalties and finally a fortunate bounce saw them lead 20 - 12 with 15 minutes to go. Some Lance Easton brilliance moments later brought the score back to 20 - 19, followed up by a penalty to David Harrison saw the Swampfoxes tough it out to score a great win.

Scorers Jimmy Horsford 2 tries, Lance Easton  try,David Harrison 2 conversions and 1 penalty
Best - Jimmy Horsford, Gene Waller, Neil Douglas, Bruce Jones, Barton Thompson
