posted Jul 16, 2011, 8:12 PM by Thames Valley Rugby Football Union Inc
In a game of two halves, Paeroa West came from behind to win the 60th match for this cup. Fittingly, Pat McClinchy was in attendance to present Paeroa West with the Senior A Championship Cup. With the first half a typical finals game, playded without too much risk as each side were unwilling to throw the ball they traded penalties only to go in at half time locked at 9 all. Hauraki North scored the first try, but West came back with a penalty, try and penalty to go into the last 10 minutes 6 points up. Although North tried to punch through, the defence of West held on resolutey to score a good win, and hence defeat North in all three matches this season. In the Senior B final, it was Coromandel who finished off the strongest, with the scores at 10-9 up til around the 30 minute mark of the second half before they finally skipped away. This was an exciting game to watch, with the Coromandel supporters ever vocal in a positive manner. Hauraki North proved too strong for Paeroa West in the Senior B reserve final, and Waihi's second half of the season continuing to go in the wrong direction with a 12-8 loss to Waihou in the Patrons Cup. The winners of the MVP for each division were announced at the after match presentations. TP Williams from Paeroa Old Boys winning the Senior B Reserve, Jarrah Sheehan from Waihou 1 winning the Senior B, and Waihi had something to celebrate with Rueben Meares collecting the MVP for the Senior A.
